Pinnacles are volcanic mountains that used to reside in Southern California. Over time, the fault has moved Pinnacles northwest. When visiting Pinnacles, note 2 things: bring plenty of water for hiking and don't go when it's the height of "fly and bee season". We went in August 2010, and it was the height of fly and bee season - not a good thing when you are going to be camping there as well. Otherwise, it was a very enjoyable place for hiking and learning. Over the weekend, a geologist gave a presentation about the San Andreas and the history of the Pinnacles. Very interesting stuff!
